Speedvagen was born on the cross course

Speedvagen started with single speed cyclocross bike in 2007, so it should be no surprise that cyclocross is still our favorite of all disciplines. Maybe that’s because the culture of cross (camaraderie, celebration and racing your guts out, 100%) matches our values so closely. Much of Speedvagen’s distinct aesthetic comes from lots of head scratching about how a cross machine could be better. The details run deep and they’re all there for a reason. If they made the cut, it’s because they make the bike faster, or better for shouldering, or to solve the ages old canti brake issues. If not, they’re gone.

It’s more than that though, we started the brand as a direct opposition to Vanilla’s long lead times. The idea was simple to get bikes under people who wanted to race them and to use them to their fullest ability. Well, as it turns out we still want the same thing today.

That’s why starting right stinking now, CX bikes will always be our most affordable bike option. With stock sized frame sets starting at $5250 and custom geo starting at $5995. Choose your paint, geared or single speed, and let us take it from there. You will be racing by next season!

details make the difference

Details make the difference. The time and care we put into each bike goes toward the craft of hundreds of details big and small. Each refinement alone is not revolutionary, but when put together make for a rarified gestalt experience, on and off the bike. This sum, greater than each part, is a feeling — an emotion for how the bike rides that only a Speedvagen can give you.

From fitting and design, customer service, metal work, paint, build out, and packing, we put an average of 150 hours into each Speedvagen.

Ask around and you’ll find that in the world of custom bikes, this is an extraordinary amount of time. A mass produced steel frame can take just an hour to build while a basic custom frame can take as little as ten hours. There are a lot of bikes in the world – we are not here to crank bikes out and fill the world with more stuff, stuff that is just OK, or even stuff that is good. We are here to make you the best bike we possibly can and help you have incredible experiences on the bike.

Our Ideal SSCX Package

Want to go with a complete? Below is our favorite CX package everything you need, nothing you dont.

Single Speed with Oner EBB - We get asked often why we prefer an EBB over say sliding drop outs. The answer has a lot do with this bottom bracket. Over the last five years we have had 15 different team members race on the Oner EBB and we have never had one slip. On the CX course we believe your equipment should never be the thing that lets you down.

• Sram Rival AXS Brakes affordable, light (this shifter/brake sets only weighs 113 grams more than Sram Red), and more robust. Plus if you want to switch to geared they are ready to go, pop on a rear derailleur, cassette and chain and you are ready to go.

• Sram Red Crankset: Light and stiff and damn good looking

• Chris King GRD23 Wheelset & CK Headset With life time warranties on the rims hubs and headset, what more could you ask for to ensure you are good to go for many years. ( ALSO The new midnight color looks sick on our new Vermillion team scheme)

• Wolf Tooth Stainless Cog - The pinnicale of durability for multiple seasons of use.

• Gear Clamps - Lighter than traditional spacer kits and way faster to swap out cogs when the course calls for something different.

• Enve Stem and Bars - Light and compliant, carbon bars on steel frames are amazing.

speedvagen standard features

Speedvagen steel is realer than real

Made from the latest technology, our new steel is to traditional steel what a Tesla is to a 60’s Ford. Speedvagen tubes are 4-6 times stronger than the tubing people typically associate with a steel bike. Because it’s stronger, it can be made lighter, resulting in a Speedvagen as light as 13lbs (6kgs) complete. Learn more about our tubing in our deep dive.

Flat Mount Thru Axle Is Standard.

Flat Mount Thru Axle is the industry standard. Now it’s our standard if you order a custom Speedvagen cyclocross bike. We machine our own flat mount out of stainless steel so that paint will not be compromised by mounting the caliper. This prevents premature rusting in the area.

INTEGRATED SEATMAST

The integrated seatmast makes for beautiful lines. There are a couple of things that are unique to our bikes. Each length of every Speedvagen seatmast is finished specifically for its owner. We also use stainless steel around the top of the seat tube where our post head mounts, rather than the post head wearing on a painted surface. The result is lighter and cleaner than a traditional seatpost, and the collar looks great topped with our ENVE-made Speedvagen post head.

popular Options

Paint, Surprise me? Team Sceme? Hollatext?

Think about this, if you have the option are you going to pull down the boring black bike or the one that makes you instantly smile every time you walk in the room? The more stoked you are the more motivated you are. Paint absolutely can be performance enhancing.

Geared t47 or PF30 EBB

Speedvagen CX frames can be set up to be geared with a t47 bottom bracket, or if you want to go single speed we can do a PF30 with an Eccentric Bottom Bracket. The ultimate in flexibility!

Bottle Bosses

The choice is yours on bottle bosses. Going to be dabbling in other disciplines? Get two sets. Building your true race bike? and dont want any? That’s absolutely option as well.
